Fixed Income Strategies
FEAM strives to provide the highest quality fixed income management services to our clients. Fixed income advisory accounts are managed to meet each client’s specific objectives, investment policies, residency, and federal and state income tax requirements.
Taxable and tax-free securities may be combined to provide the most attractive after-tax income for the client. FEAM fixed income portfolio managers use a top-down investment style for managing our clients’ portfolios. We focus on security selection, diversification, yield curve structure and sector allocation using fundamental research as well as proprietary products to identify and capture value for our clients to outperform benchmarks while controlling risk, regardless of the direction of interest rates.
Taxable Bond Portfolio - This strategy employs a top down investment style using a macro economic view as the basis for managing portfolios. Longer-term trends are emphasized. This active strategy seeks capital gains and income to generate above market total returns. We consider relative market value, liquidity, and yield with respect to credit quality and duration. Bond quality is generally limited to the higher investment grades, usually AA or better. This FEAM portfolio is focused on US Treasury securities, corporate securities, Federal Agency securities, Collateralized Mortgage Obligations and Taxable municipal, state and local government bonds of very high quality.

Tax Free Municipal Bond Portfolio - FEAM provides active management of tax-free securities on both a total return and income basis. We are not market neutral regarding the future direction of interest rates. Portfolios are actively managed to seek capital gains as well as income. Our security selection considers relative market value and yield with respect to credit quality, liquidity and duration within well defined agreed to parameters. Bond quality is generally limited to AA or better.
Short Duration Portfolio - The primary objective of this strategy is principal protection. We strive to earn better returns than alternatives like money market funds, CDs or savings accounts with a similar or reduced level of investment risk. We continually review relative yield utilizing a complete menu of short-term investment securities.
The investment vehicles considered for this portfolio include but are not limited to US Treasury Securities, Federal Agencies, high grade corporate bonds, certificates of deposit, commercial paper repurchase agreements and other cash equivalents.
Aggressive Total Return Portfolio - This portfolio seeks total return consisting of income and capital appreciation. It is designed for the investor willing to accept higher than market volatility and additional credit risk for the potential of higher long-term performance. This portfolio may consist of investment grade and high yield bonds and agency and private label CMO’s.
